Match Report - BAY CITY STROLLERS - 21 Aug 2022

Game against Bay City 21st August

This was a home league match played at Aylesham. The team was Jan in goal, John B, Dave E and Brian in defence, Mark and Peter in midfield and Cedric upfront. Simon managed and though injured also acted as the only sub.

We got off to the worst possible start as we were caught cold in the first 10 seconds and they went ahead. From then on it was a good game played in the correct spirit. Peter after initially playing too wide, moved inside and became much more involved. A sign of things to come was a shot from Peter that arrowed to the top left hand corner of the BC net, that was saved spectacularly by their keeper. Soon after that we equalised. An excellent diagonal ball from Peter found Mark drifting in from the left. Mark struck it home first time. The first half ended disappointingly as BC went ahead seconds before half-time.

Simon replaced Mark for part of the 2nd half and then later for Peter. It was inevitable that the team would tire given the age of the majority of the players and the lack of fit subs. However, I think we acquitted ourselves well and showed some nice touches and good organisation at times. In the end BC rolled out 5-1 winners, a result that even they thought was a little unfair. Rob refereed well again.
