Home league match
With -6 temperatures overnight it was surprising that the 3G pitch was in good playing condition as we welcomed Bracknell Town for another Surrey Youth League - Premier Elite fixture.
We were forced into some changes as we went into the game with some key players absent due to injury meaning some players playing out of position. This also meant a first competitive appearance for Tadi who was playing a year up having impressed in training.
We started well and took the lead in just the 2nd minute. Having worked the ball from left to right, Kris delivered an excellent cross which was inadvertently diverted into the net by the defender. After our first start we struggled to get into any rhythm and could not seem to keep possession and the game developed into a scrappy midfield battle. Tadi was doing well alongside Erim and the defence of Kris, JJ and Freddie were standing strong. Going forward Oli and Ben were constantly probing for an opening with Josh E and Lewis providing the width
However having given the ball away again we conceded a freekick which Bracknell delivered and a glancing header found the corner to make it 1-1 in the 24th minute.
A few half chances came and went and it was stalemate at the break.
HT 1-1
We started the 2nd half well and came close but a couple of good chances were not converted. With the game in the balance and both sides pushing forward Joe B, James, Luca and Luke all entered the fray and all had their moments. It was end to end but neither side could make the breakthrough. Dom was called into action from some long range efforts and produced a couple of top-class saves.
FT 1-1.
Sometimes you have a bad day at the office and this was one of those days for the Rebels - with various factors resulting in a below par performance. Credit must be given to Bracknell though who battled from the first whistle and played their part in a good local derby.
MoM - Every now and again you need your keeper to be alert and be alive to danger and Dom produced some fine saves to earn the award this week.
Also earning the award this week is Freddie. His no-nonsense defending was on show yet again and he repelled everything that came his way.
Well done boys.
