vs Badshot Lea Colts U15
Home cup match
The CTYFC U15 Rebels were back in action following a week off with no game and we welcomed Badshot Lea Colts to Tomlinscote - with a place in the Surrey County Cup Semi-Final up for grabs.
We got the perfect start when Kris won possession midway into the Badshot half and drove forward. As he approached the box, he found a sumptuous ball with the outside of his right foot to find Oli in the box. Oli's touch was perfect and he finished emphatically into the bottom corner to open the scoring.
We quickly went looking for a second and Zahir soon found some space in the box but his shot whistled just over the bar.
After a frantic opening 20 minutes the game began to settle down with both sides looking to attack. We then had a momentary lapse in concentration at a corner that saw Badshot score with a scrappy goal that crept over the line to bring the scores level.
Lewis was working hard down the left wing with good support from Fred and Erim which produced a chance for Hayden but his first time shot was saved by the keeper.
Fred was replaced by Josh DK shortly before half time due to injury seeing the ever-reliable JJ come to the left and Josh DK slot in on the right. Isaac was commanding in defence and Badshot were limited to a few half chances that Dom dealt with comfortably.
HT 1-1
Into the 2nd half and a few changes saw James and Ben enter the fray as we pushed forward looking for the 2nd goal. Badshot also were throwing bodies forward and a real battle was ensuing.
With time running out Luke was now on too as we continued to search for the breakthrough. A ball over the top saw Oli pounce and bare down on goal. Despite a last-ditch tackle Oli stayed on his feet and kept his composure to find the net to make it 2-1 with just minutes to go.
As we entered injury time and with Badshot now pouring forward - Josh E won the ball in his own half and proceeded to drive the length of the pitch. Rather than head for the corner Josh cut back to find Luke whose shot was blocked. The bouncing ball fell to Zahir who controlled with his chest - and in one movement with his back to goal 8 yards out - produced an outrageous overhead kick which glided into the top corner for 3-1.
FT 3-1.
A true cup tie in every sense of the word with both teams giving everything as you'd expect from a local derby with friendly rivalries.
MoM - this week goes to Kris for yet another tireless midfield display - to go along with a great assist.
Also getting the award is Josh DK - having come on for the injured Fred - he was assured in his play and defended superbly in a very physical encounter.
Well done lads .
