Away league match

An early start was in order as the Rebels made the trip to face Sutton Utd Youth in the SYL Premier Elite fixture on Sunday. Dom did make a sharp save early on but on the big grassy pitch we made a good start and in the first 10 minutes dominated territory and possession. An early corner came to nothing and Mikey had a shot which was high over the bar. A searching ball down the left saw Mikey again involved, sprinting onto the through ball and beating the keeper to the ball and drawing the foul to win a penalty. Oli stepped up and buried it to make it 0-1. For the remainder of the half we passed the ball well with Erim, Kris, Zahir, James and Lewis finding good angles switching play well. Isaac, JJ and Freddie defended strongly to see us through to the break. HT 0-1.

The first minute of the 2nd half saw James do well to disposess the defender in the their left back position, he cut back inside onto his left foot and unleashed an absolute rocket into the far corner to make it 0-2 - an absolute stunner! It was 0-3 just a few minutes later after a free kick was recycled by Erim back to Isaac whose long and high cross found Mikey arriving at the back post to finish on the half volley across the keeper. With a three goal cushion we managed the game well, Luke was working hard having come on at half time and a George bringing fresh legs to the midfield allowing Lewis, Isaac and JJ to have well earned breathers. We continued to be patient with possession and tried to keep the ball moving quickly to create chances. We made the game safe with 5 minutes to go when Oli struck a long range free kick which the keeper was unable to deal with and spilled it into the net for 0-4. We conceded a late penalty which was converted and the final whistle shortly followed. FT 1-4.

An excellent performance from the squad on the day, with all the lads contributing positively. We played some really good football and utilised the big pitch to move the ball well and were clinical with the opportunities we created. Man of the match could have gone to anyone today, but Kris and Erim were excellent in the centre of the park and their use of the ball allowed us to stretch the opposition and create lots of space for us to play. Well done boys.
