The first encounter ended 2-1 to the green team. A good side and greens had to be alert from the first whistle.
Maccabi started off the better of the two teams as greens were adjusting to the surface. Due to the narrow nature, Bury had to show more of a battling side and started to get a foothold of the game by getting the ball up the pitch more quickly. With barely any chances and numerous offsides against us, Bex surprised everyone and turned and volleyed the ball into the net out of nowhere. A great finish.
The second half began, and greens started to win more of duels. The greens finally settled on the pitch and targeted the spaces on the pitch, which allowed us to have more of the ball.
Maccabi equalised with a better of a free kick. Leaving Nat to just get her fingertips on the ball. Unstoppable.
Back to 1-1, the fighting spirit of the greens quickly came through once more with Bex charging through the defenders and after the 4th time of asking, putting the ball into the back of the net. Once this goal went in, the greens grew in confidence and started to dominate in every position.
Defenders were putting their body and head (soph) on the line, not allowing the opponents to equalise.
Bex capped off a great performance with 3rd goal and took home the matchball and, most importantly, 3 points on a Sunday evening.
