Match Report 29th March 2023.

The last game of the season was upon us, and a result was needed to secure the Division 2 title.

I think everyone was a tad nervous, with Hayley sending half the team to the wrong side of the ground. This was followed by a nervous Linn parking up her car, so she decided to just park it anywhere. This is all before a ball has been kicked.

The message was short, don't think about the result, don't force it, and keep playing to our strengths.

The game kicked off, and within 30 seconds, Stockport player got hold of the ball and struck it, leaving Nat with no chance.

The team had to respond and show character to conceding the first goal. The greens soon adapted to the pitch and opposition, and it was only a matter of time before we created our first real opportunity of the game. A great through ball (from Nat, I think) with bex turned and calmly slotted the ball home. A great response and just what everyone needed.

That was the start of a near complete first half. The players set the traps for Stockport to play out from the back and the pressure from Bex, Em, Marita, Dan, Shuniece, Rachel and Steff caused chance after chance and it was brilliant to watch. This was then helped by the defence and Soph in the deeper role to not allow them to get another shot on goal. I don't think Nat had one save to make, showing how solid Demi, Linn, Charlotte, Hayley, and Lauren defended.

A quickfire hattick from Bex in the first half ensured that we weren't going home without winning this league.

To add a near perfect first half, Em finally got her reward for the hard work she's put in this season. A confident finish shows once again the depth we have in this team.

4-1 at half time. It could have been a lot more. The keeper just wasn't allowing Sophie to get a goal!

The second half was more of the same but with more control of the ball. The passing spearheaded by Rachel, steff, and Soph was a joy to watch.

When you have Dan doing backheels in the game, we must be feeling confident. (That corner was absolutely dreadful??)

Bex completed the game with her 4th goal of the game.

A player that has supported the team from the first whistle to the last, Megan Hayhurst??.

I'm proud of every player this season, and we haven't even finished yet!

POM Megan Hayhurst

Last POM Sophie Riley (double mention)
