Away league match
After being held to 2 all draw by Eaton Socon midweek, Buckden were aiming to take a step closer to promotion with a win over Littleport. The reverse fixture saw a thumping 4 nil victory to Buckden with Littleport finishing the match down to 10 men. Buckden were looking for a repeat.
The game began and as suspected Littleport started aggressively clearly identifying their game plan. Buckden were trying to get the ball down and play there usual flowing football but with tackles flying in and constant interruptions from the whistle happy ref this was my made easy. As the first half went on Buckden began to string a few passes together and break into the final third before a clinical pass through the heart of Littleport's defence released James Wou who comfortably slotted home making it 1 nil. There were few and far chances as the first half drew to an end, Littleport came close to equalising only to the flagged offside a good decision from the linesman.
With the score only 1 nil Buckden knew they needed to up a gear and put the game to bed in the second half. Buckden started brightly as they looked to set up camp in Littleport's final third. It didn't take long for Buckden to take charge as not long into the second half a big ball up towards striker Dom win the flick on to release left winger Sam Underwood who had all he time in the world to drill the ball under the keeper into the back of the net. From there on in it was all Buckden, constant pressing had Littleport struggling and when the ball was one on the right and a great overlapping run from Luke Fennel saw him whip in a delicious cross to which Dom expertly volleyed past the keeper making it 3. There chance to make it 4 went begging on two occasions with James Wou missing from point blank range (very unlike him) and a controversial incident awere the ball appeared to have been struck beautifully into the top corner for Doms second only for a goal kick to be given due to a hole in the net?? The game ended and even though Buckden had not been at there best the job was done and the smell of promotion was greater than ever.
