Home league match
In blustery conditions down at the 3g Buckden showed their promotion credentials by dominating a team above them in the league. Bar a few late arrivals the warm up was excellent and it was clear Buckden had the edge in their preparations and were totally focused and ready to work for each other. The team these days is packed with quality and being a passing side, the 3g is a perfect canvas for the players to express themselves. The first ten minutes were slightly sluggish from the home side allowing the opposition to play a bit, however, after the first goal after 20 minutes they were in total control for the remainder of the match. The first goal came from good work down the flanks, a few blocked efforts later the ball fell to the best man possible from a Buckden perspective- goal - G Man- 1 nil. As expected the challenges started to get a little rash from the home side, but in reality it was more a sign of desperation, Buckden penetrating at will, playing the ball into nice areas of the pitch, one touch stuff, playing off Josh in the false 9 role. A couple of players have come on leaps and bounds in the writers opinion, Shane, Noodles and Sam in particular and with that disciplined platform further goals were inevitable - Sam whipping in a nice ball which G pounced on to make it 2 nil with a cool finish. Half time the message was to keep playing football but be wary as there was still work to do, Westbury wisely urging the lads not to react to any off the ball stuff. Into the second half and the third goal came as expected, nice whipped in corner and a glancing header from G. Dom came on for Wou and started to drag there already beleaguered defence all over the place. In all honesty this game could have really been 8, 9 , 10 such was the dominance and Littleport didn't have a shot on target the whole game. The fourth came from Dom roaming to the left and pressurising the keeper at the dead ball line, their keeper pushed Dom over for a blatant pen which Shane duly despatched. Lovey came on with 20 minutes to go sweat out his 'boarding' excesses but didn't realise he still had those dopey boots that 'boarders' wear on and kept kicking the ball out of play much to the crowds dismay. Regardless, a good day, rendered a real humdinger with the return of an old player, Oli, who was relieved to be back and the fight continues next week with another home fixture Buckden will be looking to win.
MOM goes to Kieron as did everything well and any sign of danger was snuffed out before the opposition could get anything going, a vital contribution.
