??Division 1 Cup
Corinthians welcomed high flyers in the league Hawthorns FC to the Navi yesterday in a big Quarter final of the Division 1 Cup. The wind whistle across the pitch much to the lads delight on a cold one yesterday morning. Nothing that abit of Graft in the warm up didn’t sort out. The lads all switched on hunting their 7th win the last 8 games.
Corries really turned up controlling most of the first half leaving Matty Talbot and his back four with an uneventful first half. Anything that got through was dealt with quickly with some quality defending from Virgil van bench mitch cam and chris price.
Corries went ahead early with the first of 3 for Tom Mason nodding it in from close range from a great free kick. Mason was to much for the Hawthorns back line throughout.
Corries continued controlling possession for Big spells of the first half creating opportunities for Mason Alex Beck and Dean Palmer.
Our second came from a long ball which hawthorns just didn’t deal with leaving a simple finish for Tom Masons 2nd of the game.
2-0 at the break and much deserved putting on, in my opinion some of the best football we’ve seen this season.
Early on in the 2nd half Tom Mason sealed his hatrick with great footwork and a lovely finish to the right of the keeper.
As the play continued in the second half corries were awarded a penalty won by Tom Mason who was taken down by the hawthorns keeper. Confident mason stepped up hit a great strike which was unfortunately saved by the keeper. Great save!
A bad back and tired legs forced sam to make changes mid way through the second half Bringing on Jordan Hartley for Mikey Price who had a great game ! Another change made Chris Chapman for skipper Dean Palmer who I felt was the difference on the day an absolute beast from start to finish.
Soon after Hawthorns got one back with a great strike from their substitution.
Soon after abit controversy with Jordan Hartley given a yellow card for the challenge and then a following yellow for decent which I must say was abit of an alien decision which a lot of the lads on the pitch agreed with.
This gave hawthorn abit of a upper hand coming into the final 10 minutes of the 2nd half with opportunities hitting the bar and finally concluding in hawthorns second goal from close range inside the box.
Hawthorns gave it their all for the final minutes of the game forcing so life or death defending from the Corries lads !
In the final seconds of the game corries lost another play to a second yellow Danny Ward seeing red and being asked to exit the field.
An eventful end but a much deserved win for Corinthians Well done lads onto the next one Harriers Trust FC in the Worcester Cup. A quality team and a game we must be as prepared for as possible !
