Encouraging First Game For The Lions

Despite an injury time equaliser snatching victory away from Brentwood Youth Lions, it was nevertheless, a hugely encouraging display and first game for this exciting new side.

After a shaky start and challenges coming to terms with the fast bouncy surface, the Lions found themselves 1-0 down. However, slowly slowly they settled into the match and remained resolute in defence whilst always dangerous on the counter attack.

The Lions went into half time 2-1 up after excellent finishes from Oliver Pallet and POTM Fraser Norris.

The second half Brentwood came up much more positively and on the front foot after a fantastic flick from Lewis West and Van Basten-Esque volley from Fraser. This was followed up by a magnificent free kick from Luke Rainbow which would not have been saved with an adult in goal. At 4-1 the Lions were cruising but Hutton received a lifeline after a corner led to a scramble in the Bremtwood box and the ball was poked home. The last 15 minutes after the water break was hard going for Brentwood, An excellent Hutton team pushed and pushed and kept possession fantastically well meaning Brentwood were forced to complete a lot of running in the match and in the end they were not quite able to hold on for the victory (albeit an equaliser 2 minutes after regulation time)

Nevertheless, the coaching team were delighted with the application, quality and spirit showed by the team and this certainly holds us in good stead going into the season starting with the mini league starting next weekend.
