Home league match

On a warm sunny morning Boscombe started their campaign with a win against a strong Woodville side. The game started with both sides creating chances and Woodville seemed to settle much quicker. Their strikers were giving the Boscombe defence a tough start and looked like they would be lively throughout. It was Boscombe that took the lead however through a Carl Phillips flicked goal after Woodville failed to deal with a Malcolm free kick. Woodville replied with a very well worked goal and a great finish into the side netting. Some neat footwork between Rob and Spud saw Rob go clean through on goal, but he was unable to get enough of the Davitt Wedge on his lob and the keeper claimed it. Boscombe then replied with another goal from a set piece. This time Spud whipping in a great cross and Paton getting the deft flick into the far corner of the goal to ease the nerves just before half time. Questions were being asked of the ref as to why no penalty was given for a clear attack on Phillips earlier but Boscombe were happy to come in at half time with the lead.

The 2nd half started evenly with Woodville trying to play their way back into the game however the midfield trio were beginning to dominate and clear spaces were starting to show. Picken had a couple of chances he will feel he could have done better with but he made no mistake just after the hour mark. Webbo unselfishly playing the ball across after some good work from Spud and Picken kept his cool to slip the ball into the bottom corner. More good work from the Woodville front pairing saw them come back into the game and pull it back to 3-2, with another decent finish from the ex-throop frontman. Manager JB was still fuming on the sides about a foul that was clearly inside the box being given as a free kick after some great work from Waz and Mark Jimmy being forced to leave the field for treatment and not being allowed straight back on. Boscombe didnt dwell on it though and some great movement in and around the Woodville box saw what can only be described as a 'see ya' turn from Spud after yet more good work from Picken. Spud then kept his nerve and fired into the bottom corner to make it 4-2, no doubt relieved after a missed chance from 5 yards out which was blazed over the bar 10 minutes earlier. Then after another needless foul was committed Spud laid back the free kick to the unmarked JB, who had his ferocious effort tipped away but only to the feet of Picken who again kept his nerve to fire in at the back post to make it 5-2. The Celtics were playing some really good stuff and finding alot of space but that's how it ended. A very well deserved win on the balance of play over the 90 minutes.
