Neutral friendly match
In a friendly encounter held at Kirk Hallam Community Academy on 26 January 2025, Borrowash Youth Football Club - Panthers faced a challenging match against ATFA Brinsley Comets U10, ultimately succumbing to a 5-1 defeat. The match kicked off at 10:00 am, and the Panthers struggled to find their rhythm against a well-organised Comets side.
The Panthers lined up in a 2-1-2-1 formation, with Jacob Fisher in goal, flanked by central defenders Brodie Glenn and Jasper Read. Joey Warren operated as the central midfielder, while Alexander Shuter and Max Hinds took up positions as right and left attacking midfielders, respectively. Leading the line was striker Harry Wardley, who was expected to provide a focal point for the attack. The formation aimed to balance defensive solidity with attacking flair, but the Panthers found it difficult to implement their game plan.
On the bench were substitutes Alfie Coupland and Ray Vincent, who would later be called upon to influence the match as the game unfolded.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 12th minute, taking the lead with a well-placed shot that left the Panthers' defence scrambling. Just two minutes later, the Comets doubled their advantage, capitalising on a defensive lapse from the Panthers.
Despite the early setbacks, the Panthers responded positively, and in the 17th minute, Harry Wardley found the net, giving the Panthers a glimmer of hope. The goal was a result of determined play, showcasing Wardley's ability to find space and finish clinically.
However, the joy was short-lived as the Comets struck again in the 20th minute, restoring their two-goal cushion. They continued to dominate proceedings and added a fifth goal in the 24th minute, leaving the Panthers trailing 4-1 at half-time.
As the second half commenced, the Panthers made tactical substitutions, bringing on Jasper Read for Jacob Fisher and Ray Vincent for Joey Warren in the 32nd minute. This change aimed to bolster their defensive structure and inject fresh energy into the midfield.
In the 40th minute, Jacob Fisher returned to the pitch, replacing Brodie Glenn, as the Panthers sought to regain some control. However, the Comets were relentless, scoring their fifth goal just after the half-time break in the 45th minute, further extending their lead.
Despite the scoreline, Ray Vincent's performance stood out, earning him the accolade of Player of the Match. The Panthers will need to regroup and reflect on this defeat as they look to improve in future fixtures.
