vs FIFE-HAUNCHWOOD RESERVES

Home cup match

Boldmere were knocked out of the second round of the Sunday Amateur Cup by decent Nuneaton based side Fife Street Reserves.
On a frosty morning at Boldmere the game kicked off after a minutes silence for the terrible plane crash that took the lives of so many Chapecoense football club players.
Keeper Steve Cullen was a last minute pull out with a sickness bug. This left Boldmere without a recognised goalkeeper. Jack Salter volunteered to take one for the team and stepped in between the sticks. Otherwise Boldmere were unchanged from their impressive performance last week.
Straight away disaster struck, when as early as the 4th minute Boldmere were a goal down when the unmarked Fife player headed home from a corner kick. Boldmere quickly settled after this and started to dominate the play in midfield, with the excellent Chris Dawber particularly dominant. On several occassions the 'Bulldogs' excellent one touch play created space for some super long range efforts from several Boldmere players. However, failure by Boldmere to create a really clear cut opportunity was frustrating for the home side. Then on 25 minutes Boldmere did create a good move and space for Dawber to advance clear into the area, only for the Fife defender to blatantly bring him down on the edge of the box when he was clean through. Even more frustrating was that the player only recieved a lecture from the referee, this turned out to be a massive turning point as Fife were struggling to cope with the Boldmere formation and although they looked dangerous on the break, they would count themselves fortunate to go into half time leading 0-1.
After half time Fife changed their formation to cope with Boldmere's dominance in midfield and it worked for them as they started to look more of a threat, particularly on the break with Boldmere in search of the equaliser. From one such break away Fife scored a 2nd goal in the 52nd minute and in truth threatened to score a couple more. This would have been harsh on Boldmere who by now had made and missed a few clear cut opportunities to get themselves back into the game.
Congratulations to Fife and we wish them well in the next round. These were 2 well matched teams and on another day the result could have been very different.
With no game next week Boldmere then have 2 back to back home league games in which they hope to push on with their season and hopefully it will see Boldmere sitting in a good position for the new year.
