Away league match

Boldmere kicked off their 2016/17 league season with a tough encounter against a very good Sportsmans side.

Sportsmans started well, but the Bulldogs defence was resolute with new signing Mike Hale making a good impression. For the first 25 minutes Sportsmans had the better of the half with Boldmere restricted to breakaways. Then the Bulldogs found their feet and started to ask questions of the Sportsmans reargaurd. Boldmere were now on top in the latter stages of the first half and spurned 2 guilt edged chances to take the lead, so H/T 0-0.

The second half started with Boldmere knowing they had to keep up the standards of the last 15 minutes of the first half. Alas this was not to be and Sportmans took the lead with a scrappy goalmouth scramble in the 48th minute. 1 minute later and it was 2 when a defensive lapse allowed a Sportsmans midfielder to expertly slot home from the edge of the box.

Boldmere huffed and puffed and started once again to come back into the game, but again missed chances proved costly, and in the last minute of the game a breakaway allowed Sportmans to make it 3-0.

In reality 3-0 was a bit harsh, however Sportsmans were probably worthy winners and indeed are a team that will do well this season.

For the Bulldogs, well, 'we go again' with another away fixture to Crown Elite next Sunday. Lets hope we bring our shooting boots!
