Very, very good win last evening against everyone's idols, the extremely popular lads from Reays. No Tyson this week so extra pressure was on the back line to protect the four stand-in keepers (Zondervan, Sheedy, Intertoto, Beardsley) and repel the Reays attacks. Initial line up was Zondervan, Sheedy, Molby, Colloccini, Charlie, Hoff Jnr, Huckerby, Intertoto, Beardsley, Yilmaz, and basketball legend Michael Jordan up top. There was no space in the XI for fan-favourite Punter who was back from his holiday. Returning like a second helping of vegemite, only browner, Punter donned his red shirt and joined the pantomime villains of Reays to make up the 11 for them. Fantastic effort all round to keep Reays quiet and maintain the impeccable record of persil brand ambassador Steve 'clean sheets' Molby. The first half was very tight with limited goal-mouth action at either end. Ben Hoff had a couple of speculative wafts from distance, Sheedy fired over a chest trap / volley combo, and at the other end Zondervan made an excellent fingertip save that pushed the ball onto the far post, trickled across the line and hit the near post. Nerve biting stuff, but thankfully no Reays on hand to tuck it home so Neil gratefully collected. 0 - 0 at the break.
The tide turned in the second half, with the first goal effectively deciding the game. Ben Hoff scored it, a few minutes into the second half. On paper the assist will go down for Zondervan, but that doesn't really convey the true nature of events. Zondervan did indeed play the ball over the top and got the defence turned. Punter was doing his stint at CB for Reays at the time and momentarily appeared to have the danger under control, back pedalling and watching the lofted pass in the air. He then hit the skids and had a bambi-on-ice moment eventually ending up on his bottom in a heap. Ben Hoff scooted round his prone form and smartly finished with a fist time looping effort. Punter often doesn't get the recognition due for his assists, so hopefully this goes some way to redressing that balance.
Goals followed thereafter with BOC well in the ascendancy. I would go as far as saying we played some really nice stuff. Moves that involved more than three successful passes were contrived. It was a proper footballing display from BOC. The scone goal came from good hold up play from Jordan, shielding it well and then finding Jnr with a well played through ball. Jnr prodded through for Ilyas who hammered it into the top corner at the near post. Boom. The third was provided by Ilyas who whipped in a really good cross that Jordan nodded home unmarked on the six yard line.
Plenty of MOTM shouts including Ilyas and Ben who both scored but giving it to Nick who did an excellent job breaking up Reays possession in CM and alwats had his head up to play a simple pass thereafter. Off to the pub we went. Molby with details this afternoon no doubt.
