vs Gobbers FC

Home league match

After making a strong start to the season, Blagdon Boys have suffered their first defeat of the season to joint-top of the table Gobbers FC. The game started strongly for the BlagDons, who were dominant in possession within the final third, but couldn't capitalise and only managed to get a couple of stray shots off. After Gobbers had withstood the early pressure of the game, they were given the first goal of the match through a simple pass cutting open the defence. Shortly after, an embarrassing mistake from Jake led to the Gobbers doubling their lead, forcing a necessary double change (Jake -> Liam & Harry -> Ben).

Super substitute Liam makes an immediate impact, giving an important assist for previous MOTM Mark to grab his first goal of the game. However, through a momentary lapse in concentration, Mark negated his goal through a sliding tackle inside the box, giving the Gobbers their 2 goals lead back after a converted penalty. A goalkeeping error from Jack shortly before halftime meant we were 4-1 down at halftime and had it all to do in the second half.

The Blagdon Boys regained their early composure and had some periods of good ball play in the second half. A few back and forth goals, including a costly mix up between Harry and Jack in the box eventually led to Gobbers being 6-2 up with 10 minutes to play. Fitness now coming into question, the BlagDons managed to get some late momentum with goals coming from Harry and Mark, but ultimately it wasn't enough to prevent their first loss of the season, ending the game 4-6 on home soil.

It's a real wake-up call for the Blagdon Boys, who on their day certainly could have beaten Gobbers, but in the end, it came down to who made fewer mistakes. Having joined midway through the season, they need to take every point they can get in order to avoid relegation into the championship. Next week they face Dongcaster; 3 points off the top teams, so another important game for the Blagdon Boys who will surely regroup and come back fighting. Rumour has it a special talent is making his debut, so attendance is expected to be high. Stay tuned.
