The Blagdon Boys faced an important fixture, where it was necessary to avoid defeat in order to secure their spot in the premier league for next season. A draw would have been enough, but they came out looking for a win. With a plethora of injuries and fitness questions plaguing the squad, M Fawley made way for the debut of Alderton's younger brother Aidan, aiming to clear his notoriety for being the worst of the Alderton's. Also returning was fan-favourite Okorie, who already made the first headline by scoring a hattrick of appearances without wearing red. Blaggers started in their usual fashion of dominating the possession and creating many chances. Not wanting to turn this into a repeat of last week, the clear message was shoot-on-sight, with Coling doing just that and scoring from outside the 18-yard box. With A Alderton having sat back early on, he took a leaf out of Coling's book and Blaggers found themselves 2-0 up through another long shot. The Boys knew now that this game was for the taking. With a barrage of possession and attempts following, the only surprise at half-time was that it was only 3-0. Everybody wanted a piece of the action to try and get on the scoresheet, and with an injured L Alderton standing in net, this made way for Lillistone to make his outfield debut. Some questions were asked of his fitness and if he would be able to handle it, but he certainly made for an entertaining second half. Channelling his inner Italian heritage through Marina, he briefly showed signs of a young Pirlo on the ball, nutmegging one player and slide tackling another. The strong effort he gave earned him the MOTM. A performance which could not be overlooked, however, was that of Coling, scoring 5 goals for the team and snatching the golden boot from M Fawley in the final game of the season. The best of the lot came from a Royle assist, drilling the ball into Coling's feet, which he then flicked over the goalkeeper. For sure a goal of the season contender. With M Fawley out for a month now, A Alderton certainly made his mark as a first-choice reserve, scoring 2 and assisting as many. The only negatives they could take from the game was a now-expected "misjudgement" from Royle and Okorie getting bodied. Overall a dominant performance, and with the new season right around the corner they surely have their sights set for higher up the table. It's safe to say on their day Blagdon Boys could beat anyone, so you won't want to miss out. End of season social pending.
