Back to league action this week and we faced a real boggie team of ours, East Peckham. A well organised and very competitive outfit, we always have very close games with them, and normally ending in them taking all the points. But we had done our homework however and this time around we had the perfect foil to deal with their predictable long ball style of play!!!

With Hobbit still suffering with a tight hammy he was relegated to the kitchen to whip the pre match snacks and Hugo Van BastaBergen was called up from the reserves. It was all too much for Gandhi’s Ghost last week so he was dropped in favour of Junior Slade.

From the off the boys in Black and Red looked the more threatening. But they couldn’t quite find a breakthrough. Fergy had one of the best chances shooting low and hard and forcing a good save from the young Peckham keeper. It was 0-0 at the break but there was no looks of panic or furrowed brows. The advice at half time was just to keep doing what your doing, just up the chat and run them in to the ground. And that’s exactly what they did, driven by the voices of Bish and Huffers B&A poured forward and it was no surprise when the first goal went in. After a sustained amount of pressure BIG BISH rose like a tine of John West’s Finest and headed home a Berty corner. With the goal they had been craving the football started to come. Huffers and Spud had the middle sewn up, Pat was bombing on from right back at every opportunity and under Bish’s watchful eye Stan Bowles was immovable wall in East Peckham’s way. Today Bowsley became a man and in front of his new shag too. No, not Bayley (who was there as well) but the Doris on the hill with the cheeky look in her eye!!

Before long it was 2-0. Hugo had come for 2Gun and after good work from Huffers and a little one to with Hugo it was sprayed out wide for Ferg who drilled in for Spud at the far stick to tuck home from close range. But it was Hugo himself who scored the goal of the game five minutes later. Bert won the ball in midfield and crashed through another challenge before rolling Hugo who picked his spot and curled in from 20 yards. By this time the Peckham keeper had picked up a nasty knock and was struggling. They had used all their subs so he had to struggle on and could do nothing about Spud’s flat drive from just inside the 18 yard box. 4-0. Deserved by the home side but very harsh on the young keeper.

An all round great performance from the squad against an under strength but plucky opposition. Three more points and a step closer to the big prize.
