Home league match

Lymm - an affluent leafy commuter village in the Cheshire countryside, home to over 11,000 happy souls, of which 8 attended the game. The Celtic meaning of Lymm is 'place of running water' - it couldn't be more apt. In a throwback to the pitches of yesteryear Blackbrook returned to winning ways on a surface that can best be described as 'boggy'.

Boosted by the return of Migoski from injury and with a full squad 'Brook went into the game hoping to end their 2 game losing streak. Osborne started in the forward line with McCartney in centre midfield, Senior and Migoski on the bench.

The surface didn't allow for quality free-flowing football, instead both teams had to battle it out as best they could. Lymm started positively focusing their attacks down the wings, Ridpath and Morley dealt well with a couple of pacey direct wide players and the couple of half chances that they did create were easily dealt with by the 'Brook back line of Swaine, Kelly, Boddy and keeper Nutley.

'Brook settled into the game with Daverin and McCartney beginning to control the midfield and Osborne linking well with Owen and Williams up front. Williams' pace, as usual, caused the Piranhas problems and he was unlucky with a couple of crosses into the box.

Daverin went off for a rest after aggravating a long-standing hip injury, the resulting re-shuffle saw Osborne move back into centre midfield. 'Brook continued to dominate the game and were disappointed to go in at half time level.

The second half continued in much the same fashion with constant pressure from the 'Brook. Daverin came closest to opening the scoring on 38 minutes when he unleashed one of his trade mark strikes from 30 yards only to see the ball ricochet off the bar against the keeper and to safety.

'Brook continued to push for the opening goal and came close 3 minutes later when Williams cut in from the left, across the area and fired his shot towards the near post only to see the Piranhas keeper make a great save.

With the game increasingly looking as though it was heading for one of those rarely seen Sunday League 0-0's 'Brook finally made the breakthrough 12 minutes from time, getting the goal they richly deserved and it's no surprise that the goal came from birthday boy Williams. Picking up the ball on the left hand side, Williams danced inside a few Piranhas defenders before bending the ball into the top corner for his 8th of the season.

When Boddy went off with a minor injury, Osborne took up his third position of the game, slotting into the back line with ease.

'Brook continued to control the game and weren't really threatened and in the end comfortably held on for the victory and a return to winning ways.

MOM: Joe Osborne - played three different positions and made himself look at home in all three.

Goal Scorers: Williams (58)
