Burnley FC Women Juniors fell to a 2–0 defeat against Blackpool Ladies and Girls in a hard-fought contest where chances came and went for the home side but clinical finishing proved the difference.
The visitors started brightly and immediately put Burnley on the back foot. Inside the opening 15 minutes, Blackpool’s aggressive press and physical approach forced mistakes in the Clarets’ backline. A lapse in concentration at the back was punished with a well-taken goal, giving Blackpool an early lead.
After the setback, Burnley grew into the game. The midfield began to find rhythm, and the team carved out several opportunities, moving the ball with greater purpose. However, despite creating a handful of promising chances, the finishing touch was lacking, leaving Burnley trailing at the interval.
The second half was largely dominated by Burnley, who pressed high and controlled much of the possession. Blackpool responded with physicality, disrupting the flow of the game and making it difficult for Burnley to build momentum in dangerous areas. Against the run of play, Blackpool doubled their lead with a spectacular long-range effort from 30 yards, looping over the goalkeeper and into the far corner.
With the cushion of a second goal, Blackpool dropped deeper and defended resolutely, frustrating Burnley’s attempts to mount a comeback in the closing stages. Despite the home side’s pressure, the visitors held firm to claim the 2–0 victory.
