Match Report: Burnley U14s 0–2 Accrington Stanley U14s

First Half

Burnley started strongly in claret, dominating possession and creating several good scoring opportunities. Their build-up play and movement looked promising, but they struggled to find the final touch in front of goal.

Accrington’s first goal came from a defensive lapse by Burnley. A miscommunication at the back allowed their forward to sneak in and finish, breaking the deadlock. Shortly after, Accrington doubled their lead with a well-struck long-range effort—an excellent finish that beat the Burnley keeper and left the home side stunned.

Despite the setback, Burnley continued to press and had chances to pull a goal back. However, finishing remained elusive, and Accrington held on until halftime.

Second Half

The second half was more evenly contested, with both teams battling hard in midfield. Burnley continued to create some openings, but again they couldn’t convert them into goals. Accrington, for their part, were more contained after the break and didn’t look threatening, with very few clear-cut scoring chances.

Burnley’s goalkeeper and defenders did well to restrict Accrington, limiting them to few shots on goal. But the pressure remained on Burnley, who couldn’t make their possession and chances count.

Key Moments

- Defensive error leading to Accrington’s first goal: a costly mistake that changed the momentum.

- Long-range strike for the second: a superb individual effort that caught Burnley out.

- Missed opportunities by Burnley: several first-half chances slipped by, which might have shifted the match if converted.

- Burnley’s resilience in the second half: despite trailing, they worked hard to limit Accrington and kept pushing forward.

Player of the Match (Burnley)

Burnley’s Nour UL Hassan showed good composure and creativity, linking up play well and looking a constant threat.

Conclusion

A disappointing result for Burnley, who were unlucky not to score, and perhaps should have done. The defensive mistake and spectacular long-range effort from Accrington proved decisive. Burnley dominated much of the game and created multiple chances, but couldn’t find the finishing touch. If they can learn to take those chances, the result might have been very different.
