In an unprecedented turn of events, Berocca Juniors comfortably won their opening fixture of the season, against a stubborn bunch of Northumberland farmers in their own back-farm-yard.
The lads were in a field of daydreams as they conceded first, but BJFC didn't succumb to Plough's agricultural style of play. Harri Saunders netted a penalty after being mowed down, then bagged another soon after. Will Nicoll doubled the Juniors' lead after a deft James Sproston leaf-tickler, before a mix up in the Plough defence allowed Sproston to scored one himself. Tom Coulthard then got his first of the night after a Nicoll pass left two opposition defenders planted.
Debutant Sam Griffiths added to his impressive defensive display with a combine harvester on the rebound. Coulthard scored a second after a maizey run, before Saunders converted from Sproston's cross-field cloche. A Harry Van Der Hoek bull-dozer like no udder wrapped up the victory on the night.
The lads managed to control the game well, and even won the physical battle. Saunders was cropped down in a challenge that was worthy of a 2-match barn, but our club captain didn't make a meal it by rolling round on the pitchfork.
With performances like this, there's no doubt that the boys will be able to a-tractor large crowd. We're hoping for an early one again so that we don't play pasture bedtime.
Sorry.
