vs Malky’s Boys

Home league match

Did someone say title favourites?

Having gone into the match only two points behind the mighty Juniors, Malkys Boys could have leapfrogged the Gaffer's boys into first place. Knowing that the margins were so tight, the opposition drafted in a Powerleague Gateshead official to play in a destructive midfield role.

With the odds stacked against them, the Juniors kicked off. Immediately, Malkys Boys took advantage, racing into an early lead by loading the ball into a cannon, and firing it into the top corner from the half-way line. The Soccer Gods referee saw nothing wrong with this, since he "wanted to let the game flow". As a result, BJFC protests for opposition pass backs, slide tackles, stabbings, and nuclear strikes were all waved away. It seemed as if the lads would be up against six opposition players on the field.

As the pressure mounted, it was summer signing William Nicoll that pulled the boys back into the game, with a worldie from 50 yards out. The rest of the lads soon followed suit, as Tom Coulthard and Harry Van Der Hoek both had strikes that flew in at around the 136mph mark.

The defensive attitude of the lads is not to be underplayed, as James Sproston and Niall Nagar added a much needed structural rigidity to the side. Their defensive work was some of the best seen in history, second only perhaps to Hadrian's Wall FC during their cup-winning run back in AD 128 when James Edwardius led them to victory over the the Picts infront of two geezers and a wolf at the Sycamore Gap. Though Jake Hawkyard wasn't there that day, his goalkeeping exploits shall be just as preserved through history, as will Harry Van Der Hoek's match-saving sliding challenge (wait for the highlights).

Though the opposition pulled the score back to 6-5, Ryan Craig made sure of the win, despite Niall Nagar's best efforts to thwart him. Will Nicoll scored the final goal of the match, adding to the three he'd already slotted home earlier in the game. Not many have earned the match ball in such emphatic fashion. We even got a packed out party bus to celebrate.
