In a cruel twist of fate, Berocca Juniors' top of the table clash with Malkys Boys didn't go ahead after the Soccer Gods deemed them unworthy to face the lads in yellow. Instead they played the team sitting in second place in League 1, Empress United.
With the sun beating down on the pitch, the conditions mirrored that of the 2011 World Sunbathing Championships in the Libyan hamlet of El Azizia, where fourteen of the fifteen competitors were sizzled to death.
Having slapped up with Factor 136, the boys took to the field. Keeper Brad Metcalfe refused the offer of a cap, so was forced to stare at the sun for the full forty minutes.
From the kickoff the boys were on the back foot. Having ran their sweaty socks off, the Queens Road boys departed the field with the score at 4-1, as Tom Coulthard's hard work up top paid off with a close range finish.
Once the lads had steadied the ship, William Nicoll took back to the field, almost single-handedly pulling the team back into the match with four top class goals.
Hard work in the defence from James Sproston, Harri Saunders, Niall Nagar and new signing Paavan Chouhan led to only the one goal separating the teams going into the final few minutes.
Up steps Harry Van Der Hoek. Having done some hard running with little reward throughout the game, the Australian latched onto Coulthard's clever touch to sneak the ball in via a defender.
The boys were well worth the draw, only at the cost of Metcalfe's eyes having been made completely blind by the summer evening sun. The club have lodged an appeal and are waiting to hear back from the intergalactic disciplinary panel, hopefully having the issue resolved by the end of the season.
