Home league match

Bedford flew straight out of the traps with Dava Byrne scoring inside 2 minutes from all of 35 yards, driving a low, right footed effort past the Johnny Pye keeper. Almost straight from the kick off, we had chances culminating in Dava Byrne scoring with a great left footed finish across the keeper. Within minutes, Bedford should have had a penalty when the Johnny Pye goalkeeper tripped Liam Keating as he was about the tap in the third. He didn't have to wait long for a third as he finished after Johnny Pye had failed to clear a corner.

As the half wore on, Bedofrd continued to create and miss chances, then just before half time, defender Jack Rooke scored a fantastic header from a corner and had a bleeding nose for his troubles.

The second half was a different game altogether. Johnny Pye pulled one back after a debatable penalty was given against Phil Burton for a handball. Minutes later, the referee failed to spot the same occurance in the opposite penalty area. A spirited half from Johnny Pye came after a long free kick was misjudged by Dillon Sinfield and gave the away team some belief. Dava Byrne finished a perfect hat trick with a thumping diving header soon after and the game looked dead and buried. Poor refereeing decisions alongside a lack of shape defensively allowed Johnny Pye to pull back another two goals. A silly red card for dissent followed for Jack Maybury and others were also booked. Luckily the greens hung on to maintain an unbeaten start to the campaign.
