Baltic picked up their first win since October 21st with a come from behind victory on a chilly January morning at Warlingham sports club.
With a combined additional weight of 5 stone since our last game, Baltic started sluggishly and were behind after 10 minutes. Glendale's first attack saw them get round the back and a pulled back cross from the byline was smashed home by the striker from three yards.
Things went from bad to worse for the home side five minutes later when Glendale doubled their advantage, leaving Baltic with a mountain to climb. Midway through the half the hosts made a number of changes which brought more energy to proceedings which gave them more attacking impetus. Watmore floated a lovely ball from the right wing over the two centre backs to Broughton whose poor shot was pushed away by the visitors keeper. Baltic continued to push, winning a number of corners. However, it wasn't until injury time that they got a foot back in the game. A cross from Baxter was controlled by Broughton who toe poked an effort from the edge of the area past the despairing dive from the keeper and into the net.
Baltic had their tails up and started the second half well. Glendale were served a warning when Barrett headed just over the top at the back post from a Lindsay corner, but five minutes later made no mistake from a similar position, powering his bullet header into the top corner. Two keepers would not have saved the effort.
By now Baltic were dictating play, the back four and Scott McVeigh in goal comfortable. There was an injury worry when a typical all or nothing Paul West challenge had him landing awkwardly but after some magic water he was back on on his feet.
The home side led for the first time in the game midway through the second half, Adrian Bradley, who had missed a number of previous chances, running through the defence from the halfway line and finishing with aplomb past the keeper and into the bottom corner. Baltic continued to attack and gave themselves some breathing space when Bradley finished after the ball bobbled back to him after TRYING TO PASS to someone else in the area. By now, Glendale's legs had gone and Baltic attacked at will with Broughton missing a glorious one on one chance.
A satisfying day for Baltic who have started the year well. Long may it continue.
