Wayside V Ballymun

Ballymun traveled to Jackson park to face wayside Celtic for the second time in 2024, having beaten them in Ballymun previously the young men were hopeful of getting the chance to win again. The game started horrible for Ballymun with wayside pumping a long ball forward to an offside player to which cian in goal missed the ball and their 10 was able to make it 1-0. Ballymun off to a horrible start early on but a lot of time to make things better. Wayside had Ballymun were they wanted them for the majority of the first half with hoof ball tactics seeming to be all they had to offer.. when Ballymun tried moving the ball they looked really good but nothing to show for the good play. Daniel Clonan was immense at the back in the first half getting us out of trouble numerous times. Lj and Felix kept the ball well in the middle of the park. The front line worked hard especially Cian Borromeo who tried and tried but nothing was working. The second half started and ballymun started well dominated the early stages and had wayside on the ropes causing some confusion between their back line on two or three occasions, but a lack of confidence and decision making in the final third would cost Ballymun and they weren’t able to put the ball in the net. Another long ball was hoofed forward and a bit of confusion from Dan helped the wayside lad pounce and they scored their second of the day. Ballymun were hard done by on the balance of play in the second half and the referee didn’t help matters he was a disaster on the day. Ballymun now out of the league cup unfortunately but will learn and move on to be better next time around. MOTM Cian Borromeo
