Ballymun V Leixlip SFAI CUP

Ballymun welcomed premier opposition Leixlip United in the SFAI cup on Sunday 29th of September. Ballymun know Leixlip well from their pre season encounter to which Leixlip ran out 11-1 winners giving Ballymun their worst defeat ever. The young mun hoping to get a positive result in the cup today and make a real game of it, and that they did unfortunately we went 2-0 down in the first twenty odd minutes but credit to the lads they reacted well and scored directly from a max murphy corner on the half hour mark. That goal sparked confidence in the lads and they continued to dominate for the next few minutes, we came agonisingly close from a long range strike from cian malone which clattered the post. Felipe hit the bar and we came close again through tadhg king. We went into the break 2-1 and all to play for in the second half. The lads came out strong again letting Leixlip know they were in a right tough game. Ballymun seemed to be controlling the tempo and a goal was on the horizon but unfortunately just wouldn’t come our way. Leixlip added two in quick succession to take the life out of ballymun and ultimately won the tie. The lads were a touch of class today and showed they can easily compete with the big boys. Every player ran their socks off today and it was class from the touch line
