Home friendly match

With the season just around the corner, B Town stepped out onto the pitch for a final friendly, before shit gets real.

The weather was with us and the squad (plus a couple of much needed ringers) looked decent. Who'd have guessed then, that we would proceed to play the best football of our preparations so far !? Albeit a bit of a dodgy start but then, we're kinda used to that. Hove FC came out the traps and had a couple of early chances which maybe they should have seized but poor finishing and an unexpected save from the current "first choice " keeper, Ian. They actually broke the deadlock in the first half thanks to some loose marking and a slice of luck but our eagle-eyed linesman Tonks, had his flag up and was having none of it. 0-0.

B Town saw plenty of possesion in the opposition half and were alert to the counter attack but half time arrived without a goal. We sat, we listened to Baker, composed ourselves and went back out with fresh determination, much to the joy of the now obsolete keeper/ spectator and with the coach off the field and searching the undergrowth for inevitably lost balls, turned the style up a notch with some immense passing play, far beyond what we need at this level, and saw Ray notch his first goal in the new campaign. It might not have been a rocket (tee hee ) but the movement and service was spot on. Harry came alive fully and just proceeded to tear people a new one with some outragious skill and turns, hell, even Squibbs looked like an absolute handful!

The difference in attacking quality soon became undeniable as Squibbs, Harry and new man, Finn got on the end of great passes, the latter being the pick of the bunch with a great semi-diving header from a Harry cross on the left wing. Every player performed, everyone defended and barring the last 10, when we dropped off a little and conceded a consolation goal, everyone followed a plan. Great to witness. A performance heavily supported by the brilliance and composure (yet again) of Callum in the middle but make no mistake, it takes the whole team to produce that kind of football !!

Next stop, league competition and a shed load of quality to return to a very well rounded squad.
