vs Galacticos FC

Away league match

After a fairly short and low numbered, pre-season campaign, B Town finally kicked off in the league at Longhill Leisure centre in Rottingdean, on a surfce that suited us perfectly and facing last years' "best of the rest" team, in Galactico's.

They showed drive and strengh going forward early on and putting us under pressure but having Baker and Pal in front of a fresh looking Miguel, was plenty, to deal with the threat through the middle and anything long.

We got the ball to feet and held it up soon enough and then the chances started to spring up. Loads of touches in the final third and some great, nearly balls, in behind. The only thing we really missing were shots Everytime Galacticos tried to counter, they met a decent shape and crunching tackles which limited them to wide play. Harry cannoned a penalty off the outside of the post and Squibbs missed finishing off a delightful ball into the box, in what started to look like a game we might not score in. Until Baker lost his marker (Harry) and peeled to the back post on a corner towering above the pack, to break the deadlock. The half ended at that but looking far more positive than the opposition.

A quick and to the point, half time chat from the gaffers, sent us back out with a sense of confidence and responsibilty to seal the win and with Harry and Squibbs looking more lively to support Sam, we continued to creat good chances before Squibbpig made amends for his strangely attempted effort in the first half, by dispatching a good cut- back from Harry.

Tonks, Ray and Tom came into the game for Sam, Ian and Squibbs. The former, having had a solid game with some nice touches, turns and passing, consistently. By this point we started to concede some pressure (understanably) and the game was a little nervy due to their, upped aggression. We conceded a goal then more of the ball and the danger of a comeback, looked imminent but resolute defending, good shape and finally a little hold-up play again, we got in and around the box before Harry was chopped ( again) to win a free kick right about 23yards out, which Callum (who had been his usual, calmly brilliant self ) stroked into the top right, Erikson style, putting the game to bed and sealing our first 3 points for a perfect start. Too many players were integral to the game and produced quality displays to mention but a cracking team performance is evidece of that.
