Axis of Evil clinched their first minor premiership since 2007 with an unconvincing win against UQFC. It wasn't for the lack of trying but Evil just couldn't put the game to bed.
The first half started just as planned with Kyle finding the back of the net in the 6th minute. A mistake at the back allowed Bourke to play Trace down the wing who then played a delicious ball in for Kyle to away from 8 yards out. Evil then took their foot off the gas and allowed the game to play out.
The game was marred by a season ending injury to work horse Ryan. 30 minutes in he won the ball off the opponent and as he went to run away with landed awkwardly on his back foot which then rolled under his weight and he went down in a world of pain. Fears of a broken ankle saw the game called to a stop awaiting the ambulance. A Green whistle, morphine shot, one cut off boot and what felt like a life time, he was on is way to the hospital for scans. HT 1-0 to EVIL.
The second half started sluggishly as everyone was cold from the extended half time break. Evil started to push for a second and were only denied by the heroics of their keeper who denied Fehlhaber continuing on his goal scoring from the previous week. The keeper found himself in no man's land which allowed Fehlhaber to chip the ball over everyone. The scrambling keeper somehow got the ball over the bar with his second attempt.
Noisy spectators made sure UQ knew where they were and also where the take away shop was, which seemed to push them to try find an equaliser. The ball was end to end but neither team could find the breakthrough they searched for.
Fehlhaber was then denied by the woodwork with 10 to go off a freekick 20 yards out. The keeper was routed to the spot but the ball wouldn't drop quick enough from that close.
Towards the end Ham copped the brunt of UQ's frustration as one of their players shoulder charged him off the ball and put him into the dug out. Any other day it was a minimum yellow card but the ref must have forgotten his cards on the day and he got off with a warning. 5 minutes later the same player goes through the back of Ham, who had just won the ball of him, which sees him need to be subbed off due to injury. Yet again the was no card.
Axis sees out the game to win the Minor premiership with a game to spare. A joyous occasion marred with the serious injury of one of their rocks in the middle. Mount Gravatt had found their scoring boot again and put away Bardon 6-0. Kangaroo Point kept hold of second spot with a 3-0 win over Tarragindi.
