Away league match
Rainfall throughout the week saw Evil's finals preparation dampened without a training session but the refreshed player answered back with one of the performances of the season. Axis coming off a 0-0 stalemate with KPR and Toowong high from the win against Hawks was the ingredients of a tough day at the office. What unfolded was anything but tough.
Axis started on the front foot with plenty of energy and a desire to get back to winning ways. The attacking players moved the ball around with intent, the mids bossed the centre of the park and the defenced owned anything that came near them. The energised attack pressed Toowong's defence hard from the get go and never gave them the opportunity to settle.
AOE's first goal came from a high press and winning a corner. The first corner was cleared out for a second. The next they weren't so Lucky. With Juan giving instruction of running near post, Bourkey took the run and beat the defender to the ball heading the ball into the net. The second came not long after with Trace making a trademark run down the left to cross the ball into the attacking zone. The defender must of wanted to get on the score sheet that day, his clearance beating the keeper at the near post with a fine finish.... I mean clearance.
Toowong started to get some momentum and had a few good attacks. One drawing out a great save from Ham in goals and another see Toshy putting his body on the line to stop a pacey attack.
30 minutes on the clock and Axis in control of the game saw Adge make some changes to bring on some fresh legs to keep the pressure on. His tactical brilliance was reward right away with Ryan winning the ball after the high press saw Toowong lose control and he didn't need an invitation to shoot. On the field for 1 minute and now with a goal to his name. He didn't have to wait long for another chance with the ball being played around and Bourke teeing him up at the top of the box. The resulting shot was far from brilliant but with weeks of training on field 3, Ryan played for the bobbles and the ball bounced over the diving keeper. Half time and Evil was 4 to the good.
The second half started the way the first finished with Axis well on top. 2 good opportunities were wasted early in the half by Bourke and Kyle hitting the goal keeper in great positions. Kyle didn't make the same mistake twice. The high press saw Kyle given the opportunity to pinch the ball from the defender and find the back of the net.
Toowong couldn't get into the game with Evil wanting to be first to the ball and trying to win every challenge and loose ball. Mike and Cody putting in solid tackles to thwart any opportunity Toowong may create.
Ryan's 2 goals saw him with the honours of Man of the match and Cody's efforts in the middle were not unnoticed only being 3 points behind. A solid effort by Evil has Hawks watched. It was really the cherry on top of the cake.
