Away league match
Round 15 saw a top of the table clash between AOE and Mount Gravatt Hawks. Both team wanting the upper hand heading into the finals and wanting to keep ahead of Kangaroo Point after a 8-0 win earlier that weekend.
Both teams went attack for attack with Evil seeing some better chances. Some fiery encounters on the field went unnoticed by the ref and started to lose control of the game. Cayne saw a yellow for offensive language after a late tackle on him. Hawks then seemed to target him with fouls trying to get a rise out of him. Trace had the ball half over the line with a great back post header but some how their keeper got to the top corner bound ball and pulled it back into play. Late in the half the Hawks caught Evil napping at the back and caught them on the counter. The defenders that were back were out numbered and the unmarked player calmly finished to see the Hawks go into the break a goal to the good.
Feeling hard done by, Adge once again went on the offensive with the formation change. Knowing that they had the better game play and that the Hawks' back line was suspect, the instruction was to go hard, press high and play the football that has gotten us where we were. With the offensive mindset and a few opportunities going close, Evil left themselves open at the back. Howie, who was brought on at half time to be part of the 3 man back-line, was called upon to stop a decent attack to keep Evil in the game. Chucky, who recently returned from an overseas holiday, had a brain snap and ended up with a Yellow card.
Evil won a free kick near the side line mid way through the second half and the resulting free kick was met by Toby who finished well on his second attempt. As Evil went for the winner the Hawks keeper made a couple of important saves to make sure the the game finished even.
Evil felt the hardest done by with the result but maintained their undefeated season. Ham was named man of the match with the assist and also the efforts up and down the wing being praised. With a short turn around until the derby with Tarragindi, Evil needed to leave the negatives behind them and look towards the finals.
