Evil Grinds Out Win To Reach Grand Final

The major semi final saw Axis of Evil take on Kangaroo Point Rovers. The game sees the best 2 teams of the comp face off for the right to host the Grand Final. With an immortal season in the balance and the need to arrange the grand final game time, it was all to play for.

The game started with Rovers on the front foot. Pushing hard to try take a hold of the game. They had the majority of the ball and kept pushing for a break through. Chuck and Wol had plenty to do at the back. Cody was working hard to stop the threat coming through the middle. The referee said from the start that he wanted for the game to flow and wouldn't be pulling everything up. Both teams started to push the boundaries and once the ref let a few go, the kiddy gloves were off. The challenges started to become reckless with both teams trying to get the upper hand.

35 minutes in Rovers gave away a free kick 10 away from half way and 5 in from the left sideline. The tall timber went up for the opportunity to get first blood. Fehlhaber's free kick was a touch to close to the keeper who came out to claim the ball, only to over reach and fumble the ball right at Tracey's feet who graciously tapped it in. An opportunist goal which sees Trace double his goal tally with goals in back to back games. The half finish the way it started with Rovers pushing for a goal and Evil absorbing the pressure and countering when possible. HT 1-0 Evil.

Some fresh players onto the pitch saw Toby bedazzle a few of the Rovers' midfield. After being caught out once they started to go in hard and not allowing him to run. After taking hit after hit and his legs not quite 100% he asked to subbed to not be a liability of the team, a view only himself saw. Phil came on as his replacement which gave Mike some more creative freedom but Evil still couldn't find a way through the defence.

Kangaroo Point would see a number of missed opportunities to get an equaliser. A few shots straight at Ham at goal and some other attacking moves denied by Cody, Wol and Chuck who were still working hard in defence.

As the game came into the last quarter, the speed and intensity of the game started to affect some players. Tracey and Chuck came off with cramps, everyone on both team was near exhaustion. As the players lost energy the tackles became a little less timed. Evil was lucky not to have a penalty against them for a last ditch tackle in the box. Only to go up the other end to win a free kick just outside the box in injury time. The defender was sent for a second infringement. Fehlhaber then added insult to injury by hitting the free kick over the wall and hit the underside of the crossbar on it's way in with almost the last kick of the game.

Axis of Evil were through to the grand final for the first time in 4 years. Kangaroo Point will face Mount Gravatt in the prelim after beating Toowong 4-0. 90 minutes of football is now all that stands in the way of the immortal season.
