Away league match
Round 3 saw Axis take on Kangaroo Point Rovers on a rainy Saturday lunchtime kick off. Missing new boys Chuck and Dom a slight starting line up change was needed. Wally back for his first game since picking up an injury in the finals last season.
In the first minute Kangaroo Point showed their intentions with clear with a long ball into their tall strikers which was cleared into the path of one of their wingers who put a cross in for a striker to head a looping ball over Nic. 1 minute in and 1-Nil down.
After a shaky 15 minutes the passes started to stick and the momentum was shared.
A free kick just in the defensive half saw Phil take advantage of the short pitch. He lobs a ball towards the back post where Bourke gets up between 2 defenders to put a looping ball over the keeper.
The rest of the half saw chances both ways with Nic pulling off a number of great saves and a questionable offside call to deny Fehlhaber a goal after Kyle's great cross.
The second half starts the way the first finished with Nic and the defence pulling off saves and goal line clearances to keep Axis in the game.
After a number of attacks Axis gets a corner. Fehlhaber over the ball calls near post and Bourkey obliged by getting there. He misjudged the speed of the ball and his attempted shot turned into a pass to Lando's feet who finds the back of the net.
Momentum now with Axis who sees a few chances go begging.
A throw in 1 metre from the byline sees Juan turn 2 players and then his effort blocked by a defender's arm. Juan dispatches the penalty with conviction.
A late KP corner sees a comedy of errors and deflections with an own goal going through Nic's legs.
Special mention for Nic who had an absolute screamer of a game. The first minute error did not shake his confidence. He just seemed to be in the right place everytime.
Bourkey also puts in a big shift to add to his goal tally and having a great game leading from the front.
A 3-2 victory in trying weather against opposition with good attack.
