A must needed win for the home side today, a brilliant battling performance to win all three points.
The first twenty minutes was a nervous and close affair, there was not really much in it. Stu Buchan was involved in a clash of heads that resulted in a trip to A&E for the midfielder ?? -he was replaced by Josh Forbes. It was then that the game changed in the favour of Alford......A Derek Taylor kick out was flicked on by Neil Reid to his brother. Then a moment of sheer class from Ally Reid.....he lifted the ball over the defenders head whilst spinning his man. The ball dropped and Ally riffled the ball home on the half volley! A carbon copy of 'That Bergkamp Goal' ??????
Alford had a few chances in the first half to extend their lead but could increase their advantage.
Half Time 1-0
Alford started the second half strong and continued to create chance after chance in an effort to find that vital second goal. The impressive Gary Stuart pulled up injured and was replaced by Keith Taylor. The defenders first touch of the ball was a header that bounced off the base of the goal post after a great ball in from Ryan Crombie??.His second involvement in the game was upending the away teams centre forward who was put clean through on goal. The defender was last man and very lucky to stay on the park. Derek Taylor brilliantly saved the resulting 18 yard free kick.
Alford continued to squander chances with Forbes and Ferries the main offenders. Ally Reid then had an effort clear off the line, it just wasn't going to happen for the second goal. The home team dominated the second half. Dale Ferries and Scott Young were controlling the centre of the park.
Every player was committed and worked hard for each other which was great to see. Let's keep it going and continue to move up the league table.
