Match Report: Aldenham U11 Blue vs. Enfield Town U11 Blue

This was an important game for us at Aldenham U11 Blue, as we had lost the reverse fixture with the last kick of the game. That defeat had come during a run of five straight losses at the end of last year. However, we had made changes to our formation and mindset since then, and our recent unbeaten streak of five matches had given us a boost of confidence. This game against Enfield Town U11 Blue would be a true test of how far we had come.

The game started evenly, with both teams displaying tough tackling. Despite this, we managed to score an early goal which helped settle our nerves. We snuffed out most of Enfield Town's threats and created numerous opportunities, resulting in a second goal midway through the first half. Unfortunately, we switched off just before halftime and allowed one of Enfield Town's stronger players to get through us too easily, resulting in a momentary lapse that we were punished for.

At halftime, the scoreline was 2-1 to us.

The second half saw us score four more goals without reply. However, this does not tell the full story.

We were hit hard by the excesses of half-term and indulgence in chocolate, which sapped our energy and concentration. This, coupled with a few knocks and hard tackles from Enfield Town, made it hard for us

Nevertheless, we managed to fend off Enfield Town's attacks with some last-ditch blocks and interceptions. Our goalkeeper, Ollie, once again gave an outstanding performance, keeping the scoreline comfortable for us. Enfield Town's frustration was evident with a missed penalty that further demoralized their side.

In the end, we emerged victorious with a final scoreline of 6-1. This result showcased our improvement since the last fixture and highlighted our ability to dominate the game with our revamped formation and mindset. The surprise visit from our Sporting Director, Adam, had also helped focus our attention and motivate us to put in a solid performance.

Final word goes to our referee today (Jasper England) who I thought was exceptional. Aside from the things you expect he engaged with the boys throughout both individually and as a group. He got ahead of some potential incidents with some discreet chats and elevated the game by being constructive with his instructions. Just thought I'd mention it as it stood out for me.
