With the early cup exit still fresh in their minds what would Affinity’s response be?

The early exchanges suggested that this would be a tight game with both sides looking strong in all areas of the pitch. The first half saw only a few clear cut chances with Lee narrowly missing out after doing the hard work getting himself into a shooting position. Defensively Affinity were looking strong making the adjustments to cope with a third attacker joining from midfield. Josh’s first touch on a bumpy pitch was like watching Brazil.

Affinity made a period of sustained pressure count with a goal by Jamie; just reward for hassling the goalie after a corner.

If Affinity just shaded the first half the second was a different affair. Luke’s strength and attacking flair paid early dividends with an assist for Lee’s first goal and a goal himself. Affinity were now well on top but a first goal for PTTR followed by a period of pressure from the opposition unsettled Affinity. Pressure from Mike C and Lee closing down PTTR defenders turned defence into attack and the resulting goal from Mike C with a clever lob shot on the turn restored the three goal cushion and settled Affinity down.

From this point onwards Affinity played some lovely football down both flanks and were rewarded with three more goals, all for Lee, putting the game beyond PTTR. A lovely defence splitting ball from James W taken down beautifully by Lee with a clinical finish showing how easy the game can be played.

A second goal from PTTR close to the end of the game couldn’t damper Affinity’s spirits. The cramp that set in in the final few minutes was a testament to the effort put into the game on a heavy pitch. This was a true team performance with everyone contributing. PTTR players’ reaction and appreciation of the Affinity performance backed this up.

Special mention to Lee who four goal tally was just reward for his all round performance.
