Away league match

With a freshly mown but soft pitch meaning sides would have the opportunity to play some decent football if they could get any decent space and possession.

Mosaic clearly up for the game started it on the front foot pinning Affinity into their home for the first 10 minutes. Strong and quick up front the Mosaic attackers tested Affinity defenders’ positional sense and pace. It was clear from the start that Sean would face a battle with the centre forward who held the ball up as well as anyone Affinity had faced all year.

Mosaic took the lead from a free kick from their right with some indecision in the Affinity defence and Aron not being able to clear the ball. A second goal followed shortly after. A run on the right with a cross that seemed to have ended the attack was resurrected with the centre forward turning sharply and drilling the ball in the corner of the net.

Affinity heads were in danger of dropping but they managed to battle their way back into the game with Fra heading the ball onto the top of the post and out of play. A third Mosaic goal came on the half hour mark with the left winger heading in a cross that shouldn’t have reached him.

During the next 10 minutes Affinity hit the woodwork a further two times from Fra and Josh, with Josh also having a left footed shot saved off the line by a retreating defender after the keeper had been beaten.

The half time call was to be stronger defending set pieces and have more belief with attacking set pieces. Winning the second period was the objective. The game had been fairly open in the first half and this continued in the second with the two Mikes battling hard to provide the impetus to feed Fra and Josh.

Chris was working hard to get forward as much as he could but the last touch was often just a but heavy to create a clear opportunity. A fourth and game ending goal came Mosaic’s way when Affinity failed to clear the ball on several occasions before it fell to a Mosaic attacker who passed the ball into an open goal.

A couple of personnel changes saw Matt Moreton make his first and final game for Affinity before moving and the first 50 year old Affinity player took to the field when Steve W replaced Ed. Both sides continued to push forward with half chances resulting but no further goals resulting.

A frustrating result which suggested Affinity had been well beaten. Nothing really went their way today but plenty of lessons to be learned about defending and attacking set pieces. The old heads were missed today.

Man of the match goes to Mike P who battled hard all game in both attacking and defending senses. Mention also to Chris whose energy in getting forward and back was as impressive as usual and to Sean whose battle with Joe Worsley all afternoon was well worth the entrance fee alone
