Away league match
Freezing, windy, miserable conditions on the pitch thanks to Storm Arwen. But AFC Ely heaps more onto Manea United in the away fixture.
The first 30 minutes sure plenty of opportunities for AFC Ely, with Conor Gibbs having the bulk of the chances. However it took until the half hour mark for a Danny Flack direct corner to go in off a Manea defender but regardless, it was goalbound.
Conor Gibbs finally secured his goal shortly after, in what was his last game of the season for AFC Ely. It seems Stretham have been fishing again in a bid to rescue their season.
Cameron Laing popping up with a screamer to send Ely into the break 3 goals to the good.
After half time, it was mostly one way traffic, with Manea's goal coming from a lucky deflection that caught the wind and lobbed Ely's keeper Scott Verdon. Perhaps a fitting reward for his constant winding up of anyone who came within earshot ;)
It was this shithousery from Scott that made a Manea player see red. Having already been cautioned for a bad challenge on Ely's captain, he barged over the keeper and gave the ref no other option but to send him off for a second cautionable offence.
Will Cooper snatched onto a goalbound effort from Tom Hunter for the fourth, and has been ribbed ever since for "stealing a goal".
With the introduction of Tino Mbavarira, he quickly bagged a goal after Ely's fullback Ryan Lawrence whipped in a nice low cross.
Having been moved out to the wing, Conor Gibbs managed to put a nice cross to the back post for Cameron Laing to slot home his second of the day.
Still fresh from the bench, Tino quickly turned provider with an assist for midfielder Ash Sizer, who had not stopped running all game and got a deserved goal sending it low into the bottom left corner to seal the match nicely before the whistle.
Man of the match goes to Ross Gray with a stellar display stepping in for vice captain Tommy Faulkner at Centre back instead of his usual attacking role.
