With our regular keeper out, captain Tom Hunter stepped into the goals for the third time this season, and third time lucky it was! With a couple of worldie saves and the rest of the time claiming the ball comfortably each time and good distribution from goal kicks.

A clean-sheet just wasn't to be in the dying minutes as a dubious low cross was allowed (it went out) and Walpole tapped in a consolation effort in the dying minute of the game.

However, what pleased spectators and managers alike, was the performance today and commitment across the park, from kick-off, to the bench who did an excellent job when introduced.

Rhys Murfitt returning from injury was quality at the back, and won the banter with the opposition as well.

Walpole striker: "You're fat"

Rhys (at CB): "Scored more goals than you!"

Walpole striker: ....

Will Cooper was in top form today, hungry for goals and assists. With a couple of trophies on the line, maybe it was extra motivation! Whatever it was, it worked.

The midfield battled out well, coming off best on most of the robust challenges Walpole were dishing out and overall a great feeling to end the season with a great performance from all the players.

Couple of lads picking up a yellow, but more money to the FA means more refs next season, innit! (eye roll)

FA Ref Connor Knight had a good game refereeing today too, consistent, fair and didn't let either team pressure his decision making.

We now head into May, planning our social/awards night, and looking at setting up for pre-season. Having completed our first full season after the previous two were halved by Covid, we are aiming to improve and strengthen going into 2022/2023.
