Home league match
So, the second game of the season for the Adwick Ladies saw them come up against Pontefract Wildcats ladies, once again the turnout of 16 Players from the Adwick Ladies which is incredible, with Jade and Hannah making their debuts.
As the game kick off for the first half it was clear that our opponent’s footballing philosophy was from the long ball school of football, with their Centre back punting everything forward.
While the Adwick ladies played their passing game, however the Pontefract ladies got the opening goal from a fluke high kick clearance that caught out our keeper, as the first half progressed once again, we were creating chance after chance and our equaliser came courtesy of Jill after we had applied pressure on their defence.
Jill and Hannah work hard in midfield with several attempts that were either saved by their Keeper or crept wide.
Unfortunately, it was Pontefract again against the run of play got the next goal after a dubious free kick was award to them, fair play probably their best player hit an unstoppable free kick giving our keeper no chance 1-2.
Then after Adwick continued to attack and press they were awarded a penalty for deliberate Handball, a bit of a comedy took on the next element as Jill stepped up and struck the Penalty for which she scored one of the Pontefract ladies attempted to tackle her, the goal stood 2 -2.
Half time was approaching but that did not stop Adwick Ladies keeping the Pressure on and Hannah was rewarded with her first goal after a scramble in the box. 3-2
Wholesale changes were made for the Adwick Ladies in the second half enabling all the players a run out, the Ladies came out of the blocks with all gun’s firing, pressing forward to push for further goals.
Some great passing play saw Vic latch on to the ball and slot it home 4-2 after some good work involving Shelby and Jill.
Pontefract Wildcats really didn’t push us apart from an occasional foray but for some good interceptions and tackles and the occasional save we kept them at bay.
The Ladies continued to press hard, and we had loads of chances but just couldn’t add to our tally, a training session on Finishing is next up.
Our first win was finally here, and it was well earned, this team has come a long way and deserved the result today
The Player of the match went to Jill Edmonds who was awesome in Midfield throughout the game, playing some great football as well as getting on the score sheet.
Our first 3 points off the League campaign means so much, we are playing some great football, even more improvement on the performance from the last game.
Again thanks to those of you who turned up to game to give the Ladies some well-deserved support it was good to see.
Up the Adwick Ladies ??
