vs Leeds City FC Beginners Women
Home league match
Well, the start of the season beckoned for the Adwick Ladies with their very first Women’s Beginners League fixture at the Aspire in Pontefract, it was great to see a turn out of 17 Players from the Adwick Ladies which was an absolute credit.
As the game kick off for the first half it was clear that there was some apprehension in the team, however once we had settled the football started to flow and positionally we were solid everyone sticking to their task with our defensive back three of Beck H, Sara and Shelley being solid and dealing with everything that came at them.
As the first half progressed we were creating numerous chances Becky G and Kerry work hard in midfield with Sarah, Vic and Shelby creating several attempts that were either saved by their Keeper or crept wide, it seemed it was only a matter of time before we broke the deadlock, unfortunately it was Leeds City ladies that provide that with a ball having a wicked bounce which confused Ife and went in off the post, the first half ended and to say we were the better team was an understatement but the score line did not reflect it.
Wholesale changes were made for the Adwick Ladies in the second half enabling all the players a run out, and it was them who came out of the blocks with all gun’s firing, pressing forward to seek that equaliser.
It finally came with a clearance from Leeds City defence Vic reacted to it the quickest and looped a Header into the net 1-1, well deserved equaliser.
Leeds City tried to get back into the game but for some good tackles and saves we kept them at bay.
The Ladies continued to press hard to look for a winner, and numerous chances could have swung it our way, with Helen and Jill having shots saved, our defence of Neve, Amy and Jonno were resolute, and it did not look like they were putting us under too much pressure, so much so they were able to push further up the field regularly and with Beth providing width chances were being provided.
We again gave it one last effort to try and get that illusive Winner, but it just wasn’t to be as the Full-time whistle went, it ended 1 -1
The whole team showed belief and togetherness as a team, and deserved more than the result depicted, The Player of the match went to our Captain Vic Darlow who was always committed and a colossal throughout the game always encouraging the team and came up with the all-important equaliser??
A point is a good start to the League campaign and we can build on this, we are playing some good football , so much improvement has been made all in all a great team performance.
Thanks to those of you who turned up to game to give the Ladies some well-deserved support it was good to see
Up the Adwick Ladies ??
