Away league match

The game of the day in the 1st division with the top two going head to head. Victory would have moved us well clear at the top but after losing the match we are now neck and neck at the top. We started the match with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Deano and Hutchy coming back into the starting line-up.

After the early exchanges it was our opponents who took the lead with a screamer from the edge of the box from the striker which Jamsie had no chance with. We came back at them though and levelled the game up when Ecky headed home at the back post from McBee’s corner. Ecky then added his second to keep up his impressive goal scoring record of late as he raced onto Tam’s long ball up the park and beat the keeper to the ball before slotting it away to give us the lead. We then had the chance to add to the lead when we were awarded a penalty. McBee took the penalty but his attempt hit the post and we went in at half time with a one goal lead.

We were looking in control of the match early in the second half but were then hit twice on the counter attack as they turned the game on its head to take the lead. We then lost McBee and Mitch to injury in quick succession. The gaffer then went to a 3-4-3 formation to try and get the equaliser and in the final 15 minutes the majority of the game was played in their final third of the pitch as we had chance after chance to score. With just a couple of minutes to go we were then awarded our second penalty of the day after Hutchy was fouled inside the box. Ryan stepped up this time but his penalty was saved by the keeper. That miss meant we have now unbelievably missed FOUR penalties already this season. We still pushed for the equaliser in the closing minutes but couldn’t find it and somehow lost a game that we should have at the very least taken a point out of.
