Ormeau Bakery F.C 1 v 4 Abbey VIlla 2nds

From the outset of the game, Villa just didn't look like themselves. With Ormeau looking the more intentive early on. But with just five minutes on the clock, a well-delivered free kick from Kyle Irwin found Mathew Burke, who rose highest to power a header into the net, giving Villa an early lead. The game though continued to be a scrappy affair, with Ormeau in all honesty producing the best moments in the game.

The first half ended with Villa holding a slender advantage, but after a halftime chat, and reset in the mindset. The second half began with a swift double blow. Within three minutes of the restart, Burke again demonstrated his threat, heading home from a Curtis Shannon throw in, to double the lead. Moments later, Burke turned provider, flicking the ball inside the box to Carson Mann, who calmly finished to make it 3-0.

Shortly after the third goal, Villa were forced into an early substitution when Curtis Shannon went off injured, being replaced by Jude Strain at left back. The visitors maintained their momentum despite the change.

Villa then made another substitution a minute later, bringing on Paul Mulholland for James King.

The fourth goal came in the 72nd minute when Carson Mann delivered a cross to the back post for Thomas Drysdale to tap in, extending the lead to 4-0. However, Ormeau Bakery managed to pull one back three minutes later, capitalising on a defensive mistake to score a deserved goal, due to Villa's lapse in concentration.

Despite this consolation goal though, Villa saw out the remainder of the match comfortably, securing a comprehensive 4-1 victory, and a place in the 3rd round of the Junior Shield. Mathew Burke’s outstanding performance on the day, highlighted by two crucial goals and an assist, earned him the Man of the match award.???
