The first half saw Villa begin positively, with Kyle Irwin testing the Crumlin Utd goalkeeper in the 34th minute, though his effort was comfortably saved. Just three minutes later, Villa were gifted the lead when a Crumlin Utd defender turned the ball into his own net, much to the visitors’ delight. The teams went into the break with Villa holding a slender advantage.

Early in the second half, Carson Mann came close to doubling the lead with a shot on target in the 50th minute, only to be denied by a fine save. However, the home side responded with a spectacular equaliser in the 65th minute, a powerful strike that left the Villa goalkeeper with no chance. Villa made a tactical substitution immediately after, bringing on James Boyd for Thomas Drysdale in the 66th minute to inject fresh energy into the attack.

Between the 68th and 71st minutes, Ross Murray was called into action repeatedly, producing a series of outstanding saves including a point-blank reaction stop, a full-stretch dive, and a fingertip tip over the bar, keeping Villa in the contest. Despite these heroics, Crumlin Utd regained the lead in the 87th minute following a defensive error from Villa, which the home side capitalised on to score their second goal.

Discipline became a factor late on, with Jake Rainey receiving a yellow card for dissent in the 79th minute. Crumlin Utd also saw two players booked for unsporting behaviour, one in the 80th minute and another in stoppage time at 92 minutes.

Despite Villa’s efforts and moments of promise, Crumlin Utd 2nds held on to secure a 2-1 victory at Tom McPeak Park, leaving Villa to rue missed chances and defensive lapses in what was a tightly fought league encounter.
