Cup Semi-Final Day

Mickleover RBL v Chellaston

Talk all week of the cup semi final with the boys, excitement was building but I was a bag of nerves this morning.

We have come so far together this season and I am so proud of each and everyone of these lads.

Lovely morning, warnings were issued RBL are serial winners and a good strong side. We kicked off and for the first 15-20 mins we looked comfortable but not really carrying a threat which is odd for Chello as of late.

However RBL would start to have more effect on the game and some relentless pressure and a lovely cross into the box was met with a fine header by the RBL lad who put them up 1-0.

Backs to the wall a bit now, we were trying to play some footy but the RBL centre backs were dominant and strong.

1-0 would soon become 2-0 after a rare mistake in our midfield allowed the RBL lads to break forward and double their advantage.

Half time RBL 2 - 0 Chellaston

Me and Rob reiterated that even though things weren’t going to plan we were still in this game, we could not allow our heads to drop or make rash decisions.

We went out and I think for the first 15 minutes we looked better, better on the ball, a bit more dominant but again the RBL back line looked strong and we just couldn’t create ourselves a chance.

This is where i become a bit confused, RBL player was brought down in the box, the ref blew the whistle for the penalty but the ball fell to an RBL player who put the ball in the back of the net, now correct me if I’m wrong please people if the whistle is blew and the ref points to the the spot it should be a penalty regardless???

Anyway the ref gave the goal and because persistent arguing by two of our players they found themselves sin binned. This is where I became so proud of my lads as 9 players stood firm for 10 minutes and even tried to get forward and create and they did themselves proud.

No arguments here from me about the result RBL deserved the win and they advance to the final, I thought they looked solid at the back and they created the better chances over the 80mins.

We dust ourselves down and we move on, we have a tough league game away at Melbourne next Sunday and we need to bounce back and get a positive result.

Congratulations RBL

Up the Chello ??????????
