Back to it today and with the weather holding off a little this week, it meant we could play at home, on grass, not only once... but twice as it was another double header !
On paper this looked like it should be one of the least competitive games of the season with it being a top versus bottom clash but like we told the lads, we’ve not won until we’ve won and if we loose our discipline, anything could happen.
Game 1.
As the whistle blew it was clear there was only one team in it and when Isaac slotted the ball through to Karsen, it was always going into the back of the net. 1-0 to Chellaston.
Soon more would follow from Connor, Fin, Denva and Jamie before Fin rounded off the first half with his second. We went in 6-0 up.
The second half was pretty much the same as the first but with goals from Jayden, Jamie, Isaac and 2 from the back in form striker..... Karsen. The last of the game would come from an unlikely source.... safe hands Josh Sewter !! When a penalty was given Josh stepped up and coolly slotted it into the corner of the goal just before the final whistle making it an impressive 12-0.
Game 2.
At half time we tried to instill into the lads that this was another game and it needed to be taken seriously. Positions needed to be kept and we had to continue to play as we knew we could and we could celebrate after we had won and not a minute before.
When the game started we were sloppy, very sloppy..... the kids were over confident and not sticking to their positions or the game plan. Although the first game was so emphatic, we all breathed a sigh of relief when the deadlock was eventually broken and Conor slotted the ball through for Jayden to take us into the lead. Not long after we had a similar scenario but this time it was Denva that set up Jayden for a cracking goal to make it 2-0 to us going into half time.
Normally we would be happy going into the break at 2-0 but we knew we were so much better than that.
As the second half started again it was one way traffic with us looking more comfortable and we knew that goals would come.... and soon they did.
A brace from Finlay who was enjoying playing further up field and the same from Connor who it was good to see back in the goals made it 6-0 at the final whistle.
A very successful day you could say, 18 goals scored with zero conceded. This keeps us at the top of the division some 9 points clear.
Man of the match in game 1 went to Jayden and in game 2 to Ben. To be honest it was hard to pick anyone as no one was really stand out with good performances all over the pitch but we felt these 2 just edged it so well done to them and well done to all of the lads. Another solid 6 points on the board.
So next week we travel to Heanor for another double header where we will all be hoping for more of the same which I’m sure is possible ??????
