After a tough match mid week, could the boys step up against a team of more similar ability. The answer is an emphatic yes !

Always a lively game against Bargate where in years gone by, more than a simple push has been thrown between the teams I have been told so a good team talk before kick off was going to have to be made. I am pleased to say Brendan stepped up and delivered exactly what was needed to be said and more importantly, the boys appeared to listen (for a change !).

We started off playing high tempo football and really pushed the back line forward. Finlay stepped into the right back role for the first time for Chellaston which allowed Jamie to push forward and he seemed to thrive in the role with a lot of the attacks coming from this right hand side. Fin was mirroring Shay on the opposite side who also loves to get forward when the opportunity arises. From the kick off, it was clear to see Bargate was on the back foot and it was only a matter of time before we put one in the back of the net and who should step up, but super defender Tom who appears to be enjoying playing slightly further up field. He clearly has confidence with the two centre backs behind him whether this be Jeevan or Ben or Jeevan with Will. Its a great problem to have having such depth at the back to bring off the bench.

Next on the score sheet was Jaimie followed by a fantastic individual effort virtually walking past the whole of the Bargate team by Jayden who cooly slotted it home with ease. Last on the sheet was Connor who was having a frustrating afternoon being caught offside a couple of times but when his opportunity arose, he did what needed to be done and played to the referees whistle not the shouts of offside from the Bargate team members. Always good to see the strikers on the score sheet.

This was a great TEAM performance with all the lads working hard for each other which was a pleasure to watch but there was only one man of the match today for both Brendan and I, and this was Jayden. His commitment and drive shone through from the first whistle until the last therefore this accolade was extremely well deserved.

Another mention must go out to our new super goalie “ice cool” Josh. Have you ever come across a cooler character between the sticks ? He’s just getting better and better at an alarming rate, I cannot wait to see how far he progresses throughout this year.

Up front new boy Reece also created and created chances today and on another day, could have got a hat full. What was pleasing was that although he didn’t perhaps get what he deserved today, his positioning was great and the chances the players created behind him was superb.

Onto the next one where hope fully another good result will follow. Thats Mickleover Marvels on Sunday. Please ensure you all advise your availability on the app so we can plan before we get to the day.

Well done all.......
